Post Delingpole: Another venue for KoD veterans….

With the exit of James Delingpole from his current home at the Telegraph, and his move to Breitbart UK, it seemed reasonable to provide an additional refuge for those of us who take pleasure in trashing the rantings of the lefty, warmist trolls who used to inhabit his blogs. http://grumpydenier.freeforums.org/
Enjoy!

  1. I like this.

  2. Great stuff GD.

I’ve just left a suggestion, how about a general category for stuff that isn’t related to the four categories you have set up, so that users can just chat, rant, post music videos or whatever without interfering with the discussions on the main board?

  3. Onya Grumpy,

I’m glad you’re taking the traffic from James’ blog. I tried it last time his blog collapsed, and in the end I found it too much to handle. As I mentioned to Msher, you’re thematically closer to James’ material than I am, so this works out well.

A word of advice from one who’s been there: if you end up getting a large slice of James’ traffic, you’ll quickly discover that a free-for-all thread becomes unwieldy. You may like to channel peoples’ interests into several pages, perhaps with some conversation-starters at the top. Plus somewhere to swap YouTube clips.

    Cheers, Oz

    • OK, but JD will be posting articles on Breitbart from after this weekend. I won’t be supporting this idea (of drawing traffic), I think it is a tad off in how it is being “sold” also, sorry to say.

      • G’day MRP,

Of course I didn’t mean diverting traffic away from JD, naturally I’ll be at Brietbart too. This place could be more of an alternative forum to discuss the same material in the absence of trollery.

Not sure what is meant by your final comment as I’ve now quit the Tele and haven’t seen what’s been going on.

        • Sure Oz, that wasn’t directed at you, I just think the way this is being sold here is a little off as it can appear opportunistic, trying to steal a march before JD hits the ground running at Breitbart. Am I upset, not really, as this is small ball in the bigger picture, but my advice would be that there are more subtle ways to go about things like this for the sake of maintaining relationships and trust over the long term. In your case, you came to the rescue when JD’s blogs were down for a little while. If you are referring to my comment questioning what this was about over on the DT, was slightly confused initially, but understand now.

          • I’m sure that isn’t Grumpy’s intention, but perhaps he might clarify if it appears ambiguous.

            • For sure, that’s also why I posted what I did over on the DT, wanting some clarity. My ideal would be to remove the ambiguity and then please delete my above comments once that is done. I have no beef.

      • Easy my friend.

If you think, in any way, that I compare myself to JD and his influence on the blogosphere you completely misjudge me.

All that happened was I decided that the Open Thread idea here really wouldn’t work as a venue for some of us. The problem with any online journal type thingy is that as each new article is posted you get the same trolls posting their shit in the early days and you and the other realists have to keep repeating your rebuttals anew.

I’m happy to close it down if it offends you, as I have great respect for the senior KoD but it is NOT being sold as anything other as another place to deal with the fcukwits who feel JD’s leaving represents a victory for them.

        • Grump, just needs clarification, I note some above are perhaps getting the wrong end of the stick in terms of what your mission statement or vision precisely is, there are wildly different ideas/conclusions because of a little muddle which I kind of knew would be the case. If it is about people getting nostalgic and wanting some fisticuffs with trolls, allowing some trolls in for that, then you potentially have a unique operating space. It just needs to be thought out a bit more and crystallised.

As I said, I have no beef, your point about influence on the blogosphere is known, and that’s why I have said this is small ball stuff, and once you have clarified I would like to have my comments removed, perhaps with the replies, by Oz and yourself, we are all friends here, but that doesn’t mean we are always in total agreement.

          • Does this intro suit you better, MRP? I prefer to leave the comments as is to remind me to learn to walk before trying to run.

            • Perfect mate, and will be interesting to see if you do indeed attract a few trolls here 😀

The “general category” suggestion raised by catweazle above, and put in place in response, is also understood.

  5. My impression after watching the Breitbart blog for two days. It is no longer our little community. We are diluted among a whole bunch of others with other interests. It will not be the same, with the same kind of relationships forming. And I’ll out and out say it. I liked our little community.

    • msher, we need more people moving over from the DT to keep the culture of the crowd, which is largely British and UKIP with a few exceptions. I had success plugging the Breitbart link on Damian Thompson’s link earlier. Not many people outside JD’s blog are aware of Breibart London yet, so plugging Breitbart London on various DT blogs should help restore the balance of the “community” to something similar to what we had previously.
