Interesting Post at RealClimate about Modeled Absolute Global Surface Temperatures

We recently presented and discussed modeled and observed global surface temperatures in absolute terms. See the post On the Elusive Absolute Global Mean Surface Temperature – A Model-Data Comparison. The WattsUpWithThat cross post is here. Yesterday, Willis Eschenbach at WUWT furnished EXCEL spreadsheets that included the outputs of climate model simulations of global surface temperatures in absolute terms. See Willis’s post CMIP5 Model Temperature Results in Excel.

Hot on the heels of those two posts comes a discussion at RealClimate of modeled absolute global surface temperatures, authored by Gavin Schmidt, the head of the Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS). Gavin’s post is Absolute temperatures and relative anomalies. Please read it in its entirety. I believe you’ll find it interesting. (Thanks, Gavin.) – Click here to read the full article

UK: Seniors and Many Families with Children are Too Poor to Heat Their Homes Thanks to Skyrocketing Energy Bills

(The same situation is happening more often here in Ontario, as various charities report that they are already out of funds for the season to help those who can’t afford their electricity bills and the Auditor General has advised that Ontarians pay billions extra, unnecessarily, for hydro. And still, the ridiculous green agenda steamrolls on. — DQ)

Ed Hoskins: Temperature reduction outcomes from de-carbonisation

Third in a trilogy of guest posts from Ed Hoskins. This one looks at how much temperature would be reduced if we committed economic suicide.

Temperature reduction outcomes from de-carbonisation
Ed Hoskins MAarch (Cantab) BDS (Lond).

To quantify what might be achieved by any political action for de-carbonization by Western economies, the comparative tables below show the remaining effectiveness of each 100ppmv tranche up to 1000ppmv, with the total global warming in each of the five diminution assessments. These estimates depend on the calculations set out in the following associated essay: – Click here to read the full article

Ocean pH data omission and threats – just another day at Alarmism Central

Why do these quotes sound so drearily familiar?

“It is inappropriate for you to question the motives or quality of our science.”

“You will not last long in your career.”

“I hope you will refrain from contacting me again.”Click here to read the full article

Climatism a New World Order

Apart from Concrete Realities Lies the Distant Theory of Global Warming.

Climatology’s great achievement is a reminder of how abstract science is. At its best science is a grand departure from the status quo of superstitious and ignorant consensus-thinking; but, at its worst it is a totalitarians’ knife to the womb.

Looking at the communications of academia’s senior global warming alarmists, Richard Tol reminds us just how perverse climate researchers really are and how uselessly abstruse, Official Government Science and the words of the distinguished mad professors of global warming propaganda have become. The founders of the public-funded climatism movement demand that you share their dogmatic beliefs and use blatant fearmongering without without any evidence whatsoever as to the truth of their assertions, as follows: – Click here to read the full article

Fracking Is Fundamental

It is a sad day when a state chooses to listen to the fear, uncertainty, and doubts spread by anti-fossil fuel agitators rather than making a decision for economic strength that would benefit schools, communities, and many of its poorest citizens—especially when the vilified technology, hydraulic fracturing, has been used safely and successfully for more than 60 years and has brought prosperity to other formerly struggling regions.”

Marita Noon (Executive Director, Citizens Alliance for Responsible Energy
Policy Advisor, The Heartland Institute)

In his book, “The Fracking Truth–America’s Energy Revolution: The Inside, Untold Story”. Chris Faulkner wrote “Furthermore, it’s been commonplace for decades. Worldwide, it’s estimated that more than 2.5 million wells have been fracked and the U.S. accounted for about half of those. Today, about 35,000 wells are fracked each year in all types of wells. And it’s impact on industry? It’s been estimated that 80% of production from unconventional sources such as shales would not be feasible without it.” – Click here to read the full article

Is There A Trend To Heavier Rainfall In The UK?

The Met Office report on a study by one of their scientists, Mike Kendon, (which, as seems to be usual, is hidden behind a paywall here , despite the fact that taxpayers have funded it).

The claim is made that

The large number of recent wet records may be indicative of trends in underlying rainfall patterns. We would expect an increase in heavy rainfall with climate change and this is an area of active research within the Met Office Hadley Centre.

As is usual with the Met Office, you have to be aware of what they aren’t telling you. For instance, they have looked at seasonal rainfall records, which of course counts last winter’s record, but ignore Oct to Dec 1929, which was actually a good deal wetter. – Click here to read the full article
